Words from Wang

As we enter a new year, I share with you this blessing prayer taken from Prayers for the Domestic Church by Ed Hays.

New Year's Blessing Prayer for Clocks and Calendars

Lord, you who live outside of time, and reside in the imperishable moment,we ask Your blessing this New Year’s Day upon Your gift of time to us.

Bless our clocks and watches, You who kindly direct us to observe thepassing of minutes and hours.May they make us aware of the miracle of each second of life we experience.May these our ticking servants help us not to miss that which is important, while You keep us from machine-like routine.May we ever be free from being clock watchers and instead become time lovers.

Bless our calendars, these ordered lists of days, weeks, and months,of holidays, holydays, fasts, and feasts – all our special days of remembering.May these servants, our calendars, once reserved for the royal few,for magi and pyramid priests, now grace our homes and our lives.May they remind us of birthdays and other gift-days, as they teach us the secretthat all life is meant for celebration and contemplation.

Bless, Lord, this new year, each of its 365 days and nights.Bless us with new moons and full moons.Bless us with happy seasons and a long life.Grant to us, Lord, the new year’s gift of a year of love.Amen.

None of us knows how many days we have in this life. May you cherish every day of this new year and may you live each day in love.

Pastor Judy

Ad Council Meeting

Ad Council had a special email meeting on December 13th. The Trustees and Finance commit-tees had been meeting during the past month to decide what to do with the proceeds from the sale of the parsonage. We met with a Financial Investor but decided we could invest the money ourselves in a company called Vanguard. We are planning on investing $100,00 with the split being in a bond fund and a stock fund. The rest of the money from the sale will be kept in our money market account to be used for repairs of the front steps and gutters next spring. The Ad Council gave their email vote to give Bob Davenport and Barbara Sherman authorization to act on behalf of the church to run the Van-guard account. Our next meeting will be Sunday, January 14th at 1:00 PM.

Dear Church Family,

We would like to thank all of you who came to our "Sounds of the Season" piano concert, and all of you who were there in spirit. We have a blast celebrating the season with you, and hope you feel the same. Thanks so much for your support! We hope your holidays were very happy!

Thank You from Shalom Center

Dear Blanket Bee Tea Group,

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity. Support like yours is what has made this shelter possible. Our new building on 39th Avenue wouldn't be the same without the wonderful, hand-crafted blankets you provided. Because of your gift, our homeless clients will be able to sleep comfortably and wake up in the morning refreshed for work or for their job search.

Since moving to our new building, we have seen our clients become more relaxed and have an easier time finding jobs. We are seeing record highs in employment among the residents in our INNS program, and just this month we saw three families find their own housing.

Your donation allows us to run our programs effectively and makes our building a better place for people to rebuild their lives. We have come a long way from foam mats in church basements and we would not have gotten there without you.

Lynn Biese-Carroll, Executive Director Shalom Center

God Bless!
